Dolfinette Martin is a determined woman who has faced adversity but managed to make a positive change in her life and the lives of those around her. After being incarcerated, she helped create a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young women from her community in New Orleans, Louisiana. My painting of her exudes her strength and resilience, capturing Martin's inner spirit of determination and courage that enabled her to turn her life around and make an impact. As I completed the painting, I was inspired by Martin's story and I wanted to honor her journey with this piece.

"Whispers to God, Being Here When Women Need Me to Be Here!" by Carl Joe Williams,

This sculptural installation is a tribute to Dofinette Martin’s story of courage, resilience and determination. Consisting of an old TV set with a video of her talking about her experience being incarcerated, this installation captures the spirit of her journey in a powerful yet profound way. The receiver features bright colors and intricate patterns that reflect the transformation and strength she had to find within herself while she was incarcerated. By witnessing her story through this sculpture, viewers gain insight into the power of resilience and the impact one person can have on their community.
